La publication permet de transmettre les résultats d’une recherche ou d'un travail professionnel qui répond à une problématique bien précise, qu’elle soit d’ordre clinique, diagnostique, pédagogique ou autre. C’est un support qui circule facilement et, par rapport à des présentations dans des congrès, qui touche un nombre plus important de personnes avec une information plus difficilement altérable.
Les informations contenues dans un article scientifique sont présentées et articulées selon des règles communément acceptées, la structure IMRAD (Introduction, Matériels et Méthodes, Résultats, Discussion et Conclusion). Ces articles sont soumis à des revues scientifiques qui possèdent un comité de lecture chargé d’évaluer le manuscrit selon le concept de « peer-reviewing », une relecture-correction anonyme du manuscrit par au moins deux confrères. Chaque revue scientifique possède sa propre audience, ses critères de sélection et son style rédactionnel mais elle permet généralement une indexation de l’article publié dans les principales bases de données biomédicales. |
